CATHERINE BUDD JEWELLERY SHORTLISTED AS BJA NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR 2013

As Catherine Budd Jewellery nears its first year in the retail market, further celebration is in the air after being short-listed for “Newcomer of the Year 2013” by the British Jewellers Association. 

 

2013 has been a big year for Catherine Budd Jewellery since launching at the Jewellery Show in February this year. Catherine's jewellery collections, made using sterling silver and gold vermeil, as well as 18ct gold, diamonds and coloured gemstones has so far lead her to being 'Designer of Excellence' finalist 2013 at the Jewellery Show, chosen as one of 7 designers to be part of the Houlden Groups 'Designs of Excellence' touring collection, selected as a 'KickStarter' at International Jewellery London 2013 and the most recent 'Newcomer of the Year 2013' finalist by the British Jewellers Association.

“While it is a huge shame to confirm to BJA members that they didn’t make the shortlist this year, we must applaud those who came through a very rigorous vetting process to make it through to the final stages,” said Simon Rainer, BJA Chief Executive.

The awards ceremony takes place on 5 December 2013 2012 at the annual Ball where the jewellery industry comes together to celebrate the years achievements.

INTERNATIONAL JEWELLERY LONDON: CLOVER COLLECTION LAUNCH

Catherine Budd Jewellery successfully launched new pieces from the Clover collection at International Jewellery London (IJL), the UK's largest jewellery event for luxury brands and independent designers. The collection was showcased to an international audience as part of 'KickStart', a platform which launched 10 selected jewellery designers considered to be 'talent of the future' and sponsored by IJL and the British Jewellery Association (BJA).

As a result of the show the collection will be stocked by a number of new retailers in the UK. Thank you to everyone who came to visit my stand and for all of the wonderful compliments.

Catherine Budd selected for the prestigious ‘DESIGNS OF EXCELLENCE’ tour at The Jewellery Show 2013

Jewellery and watch buying company The Houlden Group, who sponsor The Jewellery Show’s Design Quarter, selected Catherine as one of their top seven jewellery designers to take part in the prestigious ‘Designs of Excellence’ national touring collection. Key pieces from Catherine's Crown collection and the new Lumière collection were selected to tour Houlden members’ retail stores throughout the UK and Ireland during 2013.

The expert panel of judges, which consisted of Stuart Laing, CEO Houden Group, Ashley Pugh of Brufords, Karen Bailey of Terence Lett, Mike Rice of Hugh Rice, and Judy Deuchar, Founder of the Clifton Studio, chose the designers who they thought had produced the most original, innovative and eye-catching collections. Joining Catherine on the tour are Anya K Designs, Arabel Lebrusan, Charmian Beaton, Erica Sharpe, Laura Gravestock and Rachel Galley.

ArtDeco Bespoke Wedding Ring

Last year I was approached by a lovely couple who asked me to design and create their wedding bands.

Hers: an art deco inspired platinum and diamond wedding band to interlock and fit around a beautiful sapphire and diamond engagement ring.

His: a palladium wedding band designed with a bevelled edge and a brushed centre.

Both rings were finished with a hand engraved secret inscription which neither knew until the wedding day.

Glorious Garnets

Garnet is the birthstone for January.

Commonly thought of as rusty-red, the Garnet comes in many different varieties and colours! Some of the more popular names of Garnet are Almandine, (the most common dark browny-red), Spessartite (orangey-red), Rhodolite (violet-red), Demantoid and Tsavorite (Green).

Particularly popular in Victorian jewellery it is believed to have been exchanged as gifts between friends to demonstrate their affection for each other and to ensure that they meet again. 

Garnet jewellery is often given to mark a 2nd Wedding Anniversary.
