Famous for its use in Victorian jewellery, particularly the deep red colours, garnets are believed to have been exchanged as gifts between friends to demonstrate their affection for
each other and to insure that they meet again. Looking even further back in history to Ancient Egyptian times, garnets were one of the gems that where entombed with Egyptian pharaohs as they believed the stones would cast light for passage to the afterlife.
Nowadays a gift of garnet is thought to be symbolic of love and the desire for a loved one’s safe travel and speedy homecoming.
